Swim Programs

sWIM LESSONS

Three levels of classes are offered:  beginner, advanced beginner, and intermediate.  All details are below.

BEGINNER CLASS 

The Beginner class is a two-week session consisting of 30-minute lessons to ensure all skills needed are in place before moving to Advanced Beginner.  Objectives are to foster a positive experience in the water, confidence, good swimming habits, safe practices around the water, and establish a foundation for swimming by learning fundamental skills about floating and recovering to a vertical position.  Two groups will be taught at the same time; instructors will move students between groups based on skills needed.

Details:

  • Class Time:  9:15-9:45 a.m. Mondays-Thursdays.  (Fridays are reserved for make-up days in case of cancellation.)
  • Cost:  $120 per 2-week session (register and pay through member portal)
  • Capacity:  20 swimmers in mushroom pool; 1:5 instructor ratio
  • Minimum age:  3 years old

Objectives:  

Group 1 Swimmers will learn to:

  • Enter and exit the water safely
  • Fully submerge face in water
  • Blowing bubbles through the nose and mouth
  • Float on front and back with support
  • Kick on front and back with support
  • Enter and exit the water independently

In order to proceed to Group 2, swimmer must feel comfortable enough to float on their own, be comfortable in the water, and kick with a barbell without support.

Group 2 Swimmers wil learn to:

  • Float on front and back, unsupported for 5 seconds
  • Swim on the front for 5 yards without assistance
  • Retrieve objects underwater chest deep
  • Perform “bobs” in shallow water
  • Jump into shallow water without assistance
  • Tread water for 10-20 seconds

In addition to skills from Group 1, to move up to Advanced Beginner swimmer must be able to kick and do arms by themselves, tread water for up to 15 seconds and have proper kicking and arm technique.

Note: If swimmer has had some lesson exposure, instructors will evaluate skills are move swimmer to the Advanced Beginner at the end of the first week if appropriate.

 

ADVANCED BEGINNER CLASS 

The Advanced Beginner class is a one-week session consisting of 45-minute lessons.  The objective is to build upon skills acquired in Beginners and develop strokes through additional guided practice in deeper water.  Total weekly Advanced Beginner capacity is 15 swimmers, with option to expand.  Registration for multiple weeks may be recommended by instructor.

  • Classes meet Mondays-Thursdays at times indicated below.  (Fridays are reserved for make-up days in case of cancellation.)
  • Cost:  $65 per one-week session (register and pay through member portal)
  • Capacity:  15 swimmers with option to expand

2025 Session Dates TBA

Objectives:

Swimmers will learn to:

  • Jump into deeper water from the side
  • Dive from sitting and kneeling position, in water at least 9 feet deep
  • Deep water “bobs” (5 feet)
  • Rotary breathing
  • Tread water
  • Swim, front and back crawl/freestyle
  • Begin to learn breaststroke
  • Water safety

In order to move up to Intermediate, the swimmer must be able to pass a swim test, be able to swim freestyle and backstroke successfully for 25 yards, know and be able to do the basics of breaststroke, and be able to tread water for 45 seconds.

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS 

There are two sections of Intermediate classes — Intermediate I and II — both are one-week session consisting of 45-minute lessons.  The objective is to provide further coordination and refinement of strokes and endurance.  Please note there are two different classes with different skills in each.  Enrollment is encouraged for multiple weeks during the summer.  Swimmers must have passed Advanced Beginner or be proficient in skills taught, and entry testing may be required at instructor discretion.

  • Capacity:  45 swimmers total

    Objectives:

    In Intermediate I, swimmers will learn to:

    • Swim elementary backstroke
    • Swim front and back crawl (freestyle/backstroke) for 25 yards
    • Breaststroke and sidestroke with kickboard
    • Diving
    • Swim underwater
    • Water safety

     In Intermediate II, swimmers will learn to:

    • Tread water for 2 minutes
    • Survival float
    • Sculling (breaststroke without kick)
    • Dolphin kick and introduction to butterfly
    • Stroke technique
    • Diving
    • Water safety
    • Stroke

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS:

    • Adults are asked not to gather around pool on deck during lessons for optimum swimmer attention to instructors.  Upper deck in front of bathhouse or seated in grass area is allowed.
    • Please sign up for alerts at 888-606-0674 for communications about changes or cancellations.

    ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

    • Enrollment can be made by primary member or head of household, if identified (HOH).  Please enroll your child, not yourself.
    • On the left side from the portal:
      • Select My Activities > Courses/Events Schedule > select the month the class starts
      • Select the child (children) you want to enroll for the class.  A confirmation page will appear.
      • Continue to the next screen and the credit cards on file will appear, or you may add a new one.  Three questions will appear regarding the future use of the added card at CSRC.
      • Sign and confirm transaction.

    CANCELLATIONS:
    In the event you need to cancel an enrollment, please send an email to moc.liamg@rerusaertloopvehc.  Cancellations are not accepted within 48 hours of the class start to allow for proper notification of individuals on the wait list.

    DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE LESSONS?
    We do not offer private swim lessons; however, our members are welcome to make their own arrangements for private swim lessons at the pool, following these guidelines:

    • At least one of the parties (instructor or student) must be a CSRC member.

    • Non-members may not provide swim lessons to other non-members.

    • Non-member instructors and students are required to pay the regular guest fee just like any other non-member guest.

    • Instructors must sign themselves and their student(s) in and out at the front desk.

    • Members are always responsible for their guests and must remain onsite with them.  If a member instructor or student decides to leave the grounds following their lesson, any non-members they signed in must leave with them.
